For home spot removal, you'll need one or more of the following four solutions, and a supply of white absorbent cloth or tissue, depending on the type of spot you're cleaning.
Detergent Solution: HammondKnoll "Spot Be Gone," or one teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent in 1/2-pint of warm water.
Detergent/Vinegar Solution: Add one teaspoon of white vinegar to the detergent solution.
Ammonia Solution: One tablespoon of household ammonia in one cup of warm water. (Avoid a stronger ammonia solution on wool carpet.)
Dry Cleaning Solvent: Use a solvent such as Energine. Test the solvent on a small, inconspicuous area, then clean the stain by working from the outer edge toward the center.
