Restoration Questions and Answers
Is there a difference between re-grouting and over-grouting?
Yes. Re-grouting includes the removal of the old grout before replacement. Over-grouting involves applying a new layer of grout over the existing grout. Over-grouting is much quicker and less expensive. The new grout rarely bonds well with the existing grout and the top layer of grout will usually start to flake off after a year or two. Re-grouting offers a more expensive, but much more permanent solution.
Cleaning Questions and Answers
Can you clean the grout that has a white build-up in my tile shower?
This is a fairly common problem. The white build-up is called efflorescence. It’s essentially the soluble salts from the grout, adhesives and stone being washed out by the water that’s flowing through it. Sealing your shower every 6-12 months will help prevent this from happening. It will lessen the flow of water through the grout, but may not be enough to stop it completely. We can restore this, but cannot always prevent it from happening again.
My tile floor’s grout will not come clean and gets worse every time I clean it. What can I do?
Keeping grout clean can be a challenge especially if it has not been sealed properly. Even if it has been sealed, every time you mop the floor, more dirty water catches in the grout. Because of grout’s rough texture, it’s very difficult to remove. At this point, a restorative steam extraction may be the only way to get the floor looking good again. Once it’s cleaned and resealed, follow the tips outlined on our Cleaning care guidelines.
Can you get out the glass rings and spots on my marble counter-tops?
These are etch marks caused by acidic substances like wine, soda, and juice. The acid actually eats the finish of the marble leaving a dull area. We can polish the etch marks to remove them. We can then also add special sealers to help prevent this from happening again.
How can I get the dark spots off of my granite counter-top?
Most people believe that because granite is a hard and durable surface, that it is also impenetrable. Actually granite is one of the most porous stones on the market and if left unsealed, can absorb stains. To remove these stains, we can apply a special poultice to the affected areas and allow it to sit 72 hours before returning to clean it off and reseal the granite again.
Can you get rid of the cloudiness on my glass shower doors?
Yes. We offer glass polishing and protection. We can remove the mineral deposits and then apply a specialty sealer to the glass. This will make it easier for you to maintain.
