Maintenance & Protection Guide

Regardless of whether you’ve had new tile installed or old tile restored, you want to keep it in good shape. Did you know it’s less expensive to do maintenance cleaning and sealing than to do restorative cleaning? Over time, you’ll still need to have your tile professionally cleaned and resealed to renew the appearance and protection. We can work with you to set up an effective and cost-efficient maintenance plan.

How often should I seal my surfaces?
How often you should seal your surfaces depends on the wear and tear the surface gets. Below is a timeline of recommended standard sealing intervals for residential homes:
Floors – 3-7 years
Counters – 2-5 years
Showers – Every year
Outdoor tile – 1-2 years

The guidelines above are for typical or average usage. Since usage varies among households, know that, for example, a kitchen counter that is heavily used every day may need to be resealed every 2-3 years as opposed to every 2-5 years. A spare bathroom counter that doesn’t get much use may only need to be resealed every 5-10 years as opposed to every 2-5 years.

What about professional cleaning?
It’s quite common for us to steam clean your tile without sealing it. The cleaning intervals are determined by the traffic in a given area and how quickly it gets dirty. It’s up to you how often you want your floors cleaned. We can work within your budget to meet your cleaning goals.

How do you determine the cleaning and sealing schedule for my home?
During the estimation and cleaning process, we learn from you what your expectations and traffic levels are in each area of your home. Our maintenance recommendations to you are based on this information.
