Take a minute to close your eyes and imagine this…
A cluttered closet, a packed refrigerator with three weeks of left overs, carpet stains in the family room or any thing in your life that needs to be cleaned that causes you to sigh each time you face it.
How did your minute feel? Stressful, irritating, frustrating and/or disappointing?
Now add five more places that need to be cleaned or organized, it can feel down right overwhelming.
Let’s reverse your emotions-roll back to the last time you or you had someone wash, wax and detail your car, how did you feel?
Were you happy, energized, how about proud?
Satisfaction from cleaning is one of the components as to why we clean, but it’s not the top three?
The top three reasons:
1. Our Children
2. Our Ego
3. Our Health
Why those three?
Let’s break it down, shall we?
#3 Our Health
A clean house isn’t just “nice to have,” it’s actually a necessity for good mental and physical health. Putting off cleaning tasks and letting clutter pile up can actually have a serious impact on your physical and mental health.
The physical part:
A shocking recent study on indoor air and the fact that it can be up to five times more polluted than the outdoors. If the average person spends up to 90 percent of their time indoors, we are breathing in dust mites, pet dander, pollen, mold, bug skeletons, and toxins from such innocuous sources as conventional cleaning products and even chemicals emitted from our own clothing and bedding. These toxins manifest themselves as symptoms most people attribute to allergies such as itchy eyes, runny nose, and wheezing, but which should actually be blamed on an unclean house.
The mental part:
A dirt and mess can play a significant role in how we feel about our homes, our workplaces, and ourselves. Messy homes and work spaces leave us feeling anxious, helpless, and overwhelmed. Yet, rarely is it recognized as a significant source of stress in our lives.
Mess causes an enormous amount of stress, it makes it more difficult to relax. It inhibits creativity and productivity by invading the open spaces that allow most people to think, brain storm, and problem solve.
Leaving them to feel depressed and depleted of energy.
#2 Our ego AKA Feeling Good
a person’s sense of self-esteem or self-importance
What does ego have to do with clean? ALOT! Roll back to the last time you had guests for dinner, what did the prep look like for the home? You carefully picked the menu, cleaned the house, maybe you even made a visit to the local home store and purchased a special decoration.
Why? It’s our ego’s-go ahead admit it, when you have neighbors, friends or family over you want your guests to think you are an impeccable housekeeper. You want them to think that you are the “Martha Stewart” of cooking, decorating and mother of the year to your children.
It’s funny but it is so true, we receive thousands of phone calls every year from a customer inquiring about cleaning for an upcoming holiday, party, guests coming to stay or even a simple dinner get-together.
It all boils down to lifting our energy and making us feel good in front of others.
