SCRATCHED OR SCUFFED LEATHER REPAIR

Items made of leather can easily get scuffed or scratched. A scuff happens when something rubs against the superficial layer of leather, causing the color or the finish to become darkened. Scratches are a little more indented in the leather. scuffs, scratches, and other abrasions are usually caused by semi-sharp or hard items like zippers and buttons rubbing against the leather.

THE GOOD NEWS IS, WE CAN REMOVE OR MINIMIZE THE APPEARANCE OF SCRATCHES AND SCUFFS FROM LEATHER, MAKING IT LOOK NEW AGAIN

How we treat your leather depends on the type of leather and the damage. Leather furniture is usually made of fully finished leather, which doesn't scratch that easily. This type of leather's surface coating prevents minor surface scratches from being a major problem. But, other types of leather, such as semi-aniline or aniline, are less durable and less scratch resistant.

Nick or Tear Leather Repair

The best way to prevent tears is by being mindful of what touches the leather. For example, avoid putting items like tools that have sharp objects on leather seats. This includes pointed objects like keys carried in your pockets or rings worn on your fingers.

But, all types of leather can become dried out in the heat and then crack in cooler temperatures, including authentic leather that's made of animal hide, but especially poor quality leather that can even start to peel. That's why you should keep leather items, like leather furniture, in temperature-controlled settings and maintained regularly by cleaning and moisturizing them to keep their elasticity and durability.

Even the smallest rip in leather can get worse as tears tend to expand over time. At HammondKnoll, we use a variety of methods to darn or mend leather that works like a charm to keep your leather furniture looking great.

Sun Damaged Leather Repair

When leather is exposed to direct sunlight for long periods of time, the color of the exterior surface will eventually start to fade, dry out, and crack. Sunlight acts as a bleaching agent, but UV rays draw out moisture from leather's fibers, dislocating its vital natural oils and causing it to age prematurely in just four to six months. We use a recoloring technique to bring your leather back to its natural state.

Hair Oil Removal

Unfortunately, leather is very porous and soaks up the oils it is exposed to. This includes lotions, grease, and hair and body oils from the human body. These oils will be absorbed into the leather's top coating, causing it to break down and become abrasive. This eventually leads to cracking on the surface and is why even real leather needs regular cleaning and maintenance. We have a program where we will come out to clean and moisturize your leather at a scheduled time to keep it looking great.

Crack Prevention

Most people believe that leather should remain dry to prevent stains. However, the key to a crack-free, strong, and smooth leather surface is adding moisture. We provide a leather maintenance service that can help rid your leather of dirt and oil from its surface while keeping it moisturized regularly.
